Cushman Construction and Excavation is a small family owned and operated business
based out of Peru, Maine. Bobby and Angela Cushman are the owners of the business.
Bobby formerly worked for a local well drilling company for over 29 years and Angela
has cut back to part time at a local Financial Institution in order to help run the clerical
side of things. She has been employed at local banks for 29 years as well. After losing
both of their fathers within six weeks of each other last winter they decided to give it a go
and prepare for retirement by starting a business that involved something Bobby loved
to do with both of their fathers.
Bobby has always been one to work around his home and loved to tackle projects for
family and friends. In 2013 they bought the property and homestead that was Angela’s
great grandparents on the Auburn Rd in Peru. They tore the farmhouse that they were
able to pull deeds for, back to 1803 down to the original hand hewn beams and rebuilt it
from the outside in. Bobby has since, worked on the old logging roads on the property
and is bringing them back for the family to enjoy riding their atvs on.
The Cushman’s realized quickly that their original easing into retirement plan was
becoming bigger than they could have ever anticipated. Since this spring Bobby has
worked on projects from rebuilding roads and driveways, renovating seasonal camps,
prepping for drilled wells, helping towns and property owners with water line breaks to
building screenhouses, porches, decks, storage sheds, difficult stairways and taking
care of properties affected by storm damage inside and out. He’s even been tasked
with building toy boxes for his grandchildren. He will also be plowing and sanding
properties over the winter.
